Help! I will be moving from Pennsylvania to Georgia in March. What is the best way to move some of my perennials, including roses?

Hmmm.....I move a lot, and I just dig my stuff up and put it in pots to move. (But, I just move from one side of town to the other! Not long distance!) Stuff like my peonies and ornamental grasses, I just dig 'em up, throw 'em in the truck bed, and plant 'em when I get to the other place.
One of the hostesses will probably move this down into a different forum so more will see it. And, someone will tell you the PROPER way! (I don't do much the proper way!)
Welcome to the forum, and nice to meet you!

well, at least it's a good time for digging them up
I'd think they would be okay dug up and just wrapped in newspaper, just keep a root ball around them, bad side is it adds extra weight

When I moved from Indpls to TX.I took some things along.I had 3 up in pots.I used trashbags as pots for the others and lined the box with 2 trashbags(were liqour boxes...sturdy) and set the bagged plants in was able to water them this way.they lived in the boxes about 4 months cause was in travel trailor for 4 months.my banana tree froze and a palm I had froze.but were left out in ice.I had a 3 gallon pot filled with blulbs(iris, lilys, glads, tulips)my tulips& glads have fizzled out due to not enough cold.My iris did fine.gave my mom the crocus on move down as went through TN.my callas that never bloomed for me for 8 yrs up Indpls, bloom just fine in ground here in TX.
Now when I moved 3 hours distance in TX......I loaded the boat and tied my pre formed pond on boat for some wind protection& had others brought down in van in boxes. If we move again......I'll have to use the car hauler& THE BOAT.I think he'd probably just disown me.My fountain takes 4 folks to load and would be a load in itself.
You'll like liveing south.now you'll learn some annuals grow as perienials!
