I have 3 hoya plants.I actually didn't know #3 was a hoya cause it had been ID as a aucucba vine& told it reverted to green cause was not in bright light.
In my yahoo photos in fall 2003 albulm are 3 hoyas #1 was ID as obovata #2 Carnosa veriegated(either krimson queen or krimson princess) #3 pubicalyx
I'm STILL trying to find to find more info on #1 I SEE obovata has oval like leaves,but I'm not finding any with the white vareigation.It was my hardest one to root& has been a slow grower.I'm lucky it even has 2 leaves on it.It has not grown new ones& have decided to leave in their current pots till they bloom.#3 I had actually potted into a bigger pot.& a huge jump...went from QT to 3 gallon.I will repot it back down a size& will remove trellis piece.I have a macramee plant hanger that I can move it into. I got #1&2 in a trade about a year ago.I stuck the other end of vine of #2 in soil cause it looked bad and it did improve.the pink cast is on the new growth.
I hope someone here grows some& knows more than me.

Hi, njoynit! I'm sort of awed by you because you know people and plants here and I always feel stupid, even about things I know a little about. It's the people thing. I do plants better than people. ANYWAY, ... I don't know anything about H. Obovata, #1. I, also, am growing a Carnosa veriegata (either krimson queen or krimson princess). I (with embarrassment to admit) nipped and pocketed some growth point cuttings from a local nursery about 4 months ago. They rooted easilly and are beginning to grow in an East facing window in generaly moist to dry-moist rich soil. (This is realitivly speaking as most of what I grow are succulents in quick draining, sort of poor soil.) It's just green and white. Come this spring-summer, I will move it to stronger light to bring out the pink. I've seen these in restaurant windows with many beautiful flowers. I've had a Publicalyx cv. pink-silver (that I paid for!) for many years. The thing is rampant. I've got it decorated as a Christmas tree right now. Sometimes I hack it back, usualy in late May, just before I put it outside under the Catalpa tree. Last spring I put it out when the temperatures were fine for it, but the tree hadn't fully leafed out and it severely sunburned. It just kept growing. Didn't even slow down. It just keeps growing. Nothing I do changes its growth. It's always taller than the ceiling, always happy, and never blooms. I've read that it is "shy to bloom." Well, if so, mine is very shy.
Well, I grow some, but I don't know that I know more than you.

They did say H.pubicalyx was a shy bloomer.I've had that one going on 2 yrs now so hope for blooms this year on at LEAST that one.
I didn't notice the new growth or that it got pink till had my plants out for their shower(the 14th?)the grow lights hit on them some.they are in Cold GH.I ran into something about the differances between those 2.I believe what I got is the krimson queen,krimson princess has a deeper pinking.was a older post burried in GW from over a yr ago.it showed both plants& described the diferances. So you grow succulents...grow epis?like orchiad cacti& ric rac?
What can I say...I grow stuff and end up studying its growth cause they always end up moveing somewhere's else.My own teacher.lol

Hi njoynit and margaret I too enjoy my hoya carnosa it blooms the pink star cluster, I don't take off spent flowers I just leave it alone and not long after it blooms again in the same place and will continue to bloom in the same place if left undisturbed I had mine for about 3 years when it finally started blooming , I got a piece of it from a friends mother who had hers for at least 20 years (she's the one that told me to leave the bloom alone) some blooms have a slight chocolate smell as other had a slight sinky smell depending on variety.. I'm told not to repot as they don't like their roots disturbed,, I started out with 4 leaves dipped in root medium I forgotton in the trunk of the car for a number of days when I realized what I had done I panicked however they had begun to root in the ziplock bag I planted in a 4 " pot has has been there in a east window ever since, I fertilize it once in spring and again summer once and let dry out between waterings and mist twice a week(Per Friend Mom) I figured she knew what she was talking about she had for 20 plus years But here is a site for more info.. I saw a picture of the White star cluster .. the stages of blooming are incredible I find that's pretty awesome in of it's self LOL..

well...now that you sent me to where was yesterday...looking round more. ceropegia woodii I have too.it flowers& I've had stems I've rooted flower while while rooting.i actually need to trim it again.trying to get the pot more full.
