Hi everyone out there!

i was doing a bit of a fall clean up, and i noticed some bright orange seeds on the magnolia i was cleaning up. there were little fuzzy pussy-willow-type buds, which turned into these seeds.

my question, is...

Do magnolias come true to type from these seeds? can you even grow them?

i have decided to germintate them anyways..and in a few months i may/may not have an answer for you, but if anyone feels to save me some wasted time, or encourage me to continue..i would LOVE to hear from y'all!

P.S...

isnt fall grand? umm..i LOVE the colors and the crisp clean air

Go! Go! Go!

What the heck can happen, anyway? They won't come 'round and take the Good Magnolia Seeds seal off your door.

It's your tree, it's your seed or whatever it is -if I can take the trouble to cultivate ragweed (before I knew what it was - hee! hee!), then you can try to raise this little orange thing.

Good luck with it.

I second Carly's post!!

Give it a try, you just never know what you're going to get, it's alot of fun anticapation!!!

How many did you get????

I am a great experimenter, take the seeds and do different experiments with them and see which method was the easiest, most productive and/or both...
Save a seed or two and put in containers now, some in a paper envelope and save over the winter, some may need to be winterized to "germinate" and stick some in a pot out side, etc.... and see whatchya get!!!

And yes, PLEASE keep us posted, [critic] we [Cool] LOVE updates [critic] to see how everything goes or didn't [tears] , we learn from how we do things or didn't do things, and that's the best teacher [teacher] a gardener can have..
(**Try to keep it on the same thread, then anyone following this story can keep track of it!!!)

lol... it really depends on the cultivar of magnolia! but, even if they don't grow true to form, they will be beautiful magnolias anyway!!
