I'm not sure when I'm supposed to fertilize my shrubs. I have several 'red tip' leaf shrubs...okay that may not be the name you know them by, but it was what was written on the tag when I bought them.
DH thinks we should fertilize them now while they are dormant. I thought we were supposed to wait until spring.
Help!!!

Hi Cheyenne,
It's best not to fertilize red tips, botanically known as photinia. Scroll down to April 11, 2001 at this site for some helpful info on them. The last paragraph there explains it.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
