I'm sure this one is not really a mystery. I've seen them all my life, just don't know what it is. Anyone know? * * * * Talentless but connected.

Could this be it? velvet ant The picture is similar, but it was the description of the colors and the fine, fuzzy hairs all over the body that caught my attention. Karen

Yep, looks like it. I looked this up & there are lots of different kinds of these but this one looks the same: http://www.uky.edu/Agriculture/Entomology/entfacts/trees/ef442.htm Says they're actually wasps but are parasitic on wasps and bees. I think I like these kind better than the flying kind, LOL! Thanks, all my life I've seen these things & that's exactly what they look like, a huge ant covered in red & black velvet. * * * * Talentless but connected.
