I was out in my yard minding my own bussiness standing behind my arbor watching a hummingbird go from moonflower to moonflower.... all of a sudden a blur of a bird swooped over top of hummer and he was GONE! .I looked arbor over real fast and then looked towards mimosa tree and there sitting on a branch was an owl a small brown one.I think he was feasting on my hummer but not for sure& here is me...watching hummer thinking i should get my camera but naw too dark out not show good...so watch my hummer die.i don't get them much durring the day...in the mornings sometimes but get them at night with haveing a huge mass planting of 4 pms in yard, they hit on them pretty good.most I've seen at night time is 9& the most I seen durring the day was durring mateing season in the late afternoon would see them swooping up in out of trees. They ht on my ROS in the mornings sometimes....but mad at the owl right now.

I have a gazillion birds of all kinds in my yard. I have a swarm of hummers all the time right outside in the front. I've recently had a Great Horned Owl in my Maple tree in the bird garden, and I LOVE to hear his call in the evening. BUT... that doesn't mean I want the owl eating my hummingbirds! But, that's nature. Even though it's hard for me to relate to it (I buy my food at Kroger!).

that would have been most distressing, but interesting to watch kinda like the freak shows... you know it is aweful, but... when you think about the speed and timing that owl had to have. i think i'd be mad at the owl too though. the hummers are just so calming!

Awwe, sorry to hear about your hummingbird. BUT, how cool to have an owl at your house. I would love to see that. (Of course, my mom was a huge owl freak, and passed a little of that on to me..lol.)

It is awful to see something like that, but I just have one thing to say....

Your Story reminds me of a canoe trip I went on (I use to guide so I've seen a bunch of strange stuff) Anyway The group I was with and I were sitting watching the the sun on the lake and there was a duck swimming by, all of a sudden the duck was pulled under water, never to resurface. After that the boys were afriad to go into the water. I figure it was just a hungry Pike but it was an unusual sight
