I am trying globe artichokes for the first time this year. I started from seed indoors and then transplanted out after all frost was gone. The plants were looking very healthy and vigorous when I noticed the center of one, where the new leaves appear, was wilted. On closer inspection I found a vigorous black aphid colony, farmed by the local ants.
Remembering something from years ago, I sprayed the aphids with a dilute solution of dish soap. This killed the aphids and ants alike within minutes. Two days later, however, in the areas I had sprayed most, the artichoke leaves had turned brown, just where I had sprayed.
Over a week later, the ants are running their aphid farm again. Any ideas on what I can use to get rid of the aphids that won't damage the artichoke plants?

Hi Lildogturpy, Everything I find says a blast of cold water will get rid of the aphids, but you will need to do it every few days. Maybe if you work on getting rid of the ants as well? I hate to say that, but that might help. Take a look here to see if the growing info helps to make your plants healthier and more able to resist the damage.
