Yesterday I cut several small limbs off a maple tree in my yard, and sap started dripping (almost streaming!) out of the fresh cuts immediately.
It has been 18 hours now, and the dripping is still going strong. Is this O.K., or have I done a BAD thing here?

Hello!!! [wayey] [wayey] [wayey]

Hey, put a bucket under neath it and find someone who makes maplesugar!!!!

This is the time of year when it starts to warm up and the sap inside starts flowing..
You have to have warm days and cold nights still.
When they tap it, they collect it in a bucket and render it down for syrup..

I am no tree expert, but someone who comes along will have an exact science of what to do....

But it can and does run when they tap it, so I don't think it'll kill the tree, it just really hurts to watch it weep like that I know.....
We have them in front of our house and we have a guy that tap's them, so we get to watch.
But they are on the sidewalk area and on occasion get nicked by the towns' snow blower when they blow the sidewalks and they will also weep from there...
But none of the trees have died from it.....

Take it as lesson well learned, and next year trim those trees in maybe Feb. when dormant!!!!

I noticed you have the name parrot, do you have any birds??? We used to have 2 finches and parakeets...

Yeah, it's killing me watching that sap run out. I won't do anything else to it.

I have one parrot, "Lola", an African Grey. Actually, she's my child! When I am home she is on my shoulder constantly, eats all her meals at the table with us, and takes a shower everyday with me. Spoiled rotten!
