These pests are on my patio tomato plants, hibiscus bushes. Tried malathion, Sevin & q-tip dabbed with rubbing alcohol. Can't get rid of them.null

For plants affected by scale insects, prune and dispose of infested branches and twigs where possible. Soldier beetles, lady beetles and parasitic wasps are native predators of scale insects and should be encouraged. You can remove scales from twigs with a soft brush or your fingernail, or from leaves with a soft cloth and soapy water. Rinse well. You can also spray dormant oil on fruit and ornamental trees. Spray superior oil but not on citrus after July. As a last resort, spray with pyrethrin.

For aphid control, spray plants frequently with a strong stream of water to knock the aphids off. Spray infested plants with an insecticidal soap and as a last resort, spray with neem or pyrethrin. Spryaing with dormant oil will kill overwatering eggs.

Good luck

I had a couple Crape Myrtles that suffered extensively this past year from aphids and scale bugs. I bought stuff from the store that was supposed to kill them- it never worked (mathalon). I even doubled the dose- no such luck. I even called the manufacturer and told them their chemical didn't work.
I finally bought some Sevin and sprayed the hell out of them-- that finally did them in.
They never did flower last summer. Hopefully, this next season will be better. Marketman25@aol.com
