The second picture sure looks like liquid amber to me. I have 25 liquid amber trees. Never seen one like a shrub before. My liquid amber have seed balls that have a lot of spikes on them. First they are green and later they will be brown and then fall off. Hope this helps. Let us know what they all are after you find out. Catlover

I don't know anything about a liquid amber tree. but what you are describing is called a sweet gum around here. that is what I thought it looked like, but i don't have any grown trees around to compare it too. but thanks for the idea. i will check out the silver amber.

Tx, the only thing worse than hitting the balls with a lawnmower is stepping on them with bare feet!! I think that one of them looks like a sweet gum also, but I don't have a clue where it would have come from! my land is in the middle of what used to be a pine tree farm. so... but I did see your other post. and I did look up the silver leaf maple. hopefully I will find out soon. also find out what is eating oak looking tree!

I thought the third pix looked like a Sweet Bay (Magnolia glauca), so I clipped a sprig from mine and sat here staring at it and at your photo. It's pretty close but I can't tell... crumple a leaf, and you will know right away if it's a Sweet Bay.
