I am trying for the first time to grow a tomatoe plant in a container - outdoors. We live in Arizona and it is beginning to get nice and warm, around 78-80 degrees. The plant seems wilty and not growing very well - no sign of fruit yet? Where should the plant be placed? How much sunlight does it need and how much water? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tomato plants need full sun and about an inch of water per week. It sounds like yours is getting hot, and that could be lack of water or just a hot sun from what I've seen happen to mine. Honestly I've grown my tomatoes in "mostly" full sun, meaning I've put them against a fence to provide a little shade and they do well. (It's been in the 80s here this week as well.) We'll get to the 100s this summer and the plants will look a little droopy, but I just keep them watered and mulched and they do fine. Good luck!
