So I picked up these african violets on sale 49 cents, there leaves looked like they had a fine silver spray? I asked the garden centre employee and she told me it was for floral arrangment and that one of the girl was a bit crazy with it! I gave them a good looking over and saw no aphids or there little skins that they leave around so I brought them home!

Today I noticed some of those aphid skins and I found an aphid, so I went at them with soap and baking soda and I think it's under control but I'm wondering if that spray on them wasn't a peaticide? I'm not mad that I got some aphids or even that they didn't say anything when I was looking them over and let her know I was looking for aphids but now I think that they sprayed them with a chemical and lied to me when I asked them a direct question!

Anyone know anything about the chemical peaticides that are used for aphids and what it might look like when it's been sprayed on a plant!

lizheaemma,
I think that half of the people that work at
those things know absolutely nothing about
growing them.
No offense to those who do work there..
and DO know what they are doing,
because the ratio is about 1/2, I'd say!
It's shame, alot of us would be more
forgiving if they came out and said,
I don't know a thing about it,
maybe I can find someone who does......
Or come back in a day or week, and I'll tell you.

There are many different pesticides that can be used to treat aphids. None that I am familiar with would leave the traces that you described.

Thanks for the responce!
The plants seem to be doing well! No signs of aphids ......yet!
The one that was blooming is amazing me! Even though it go a through soap washing it held all it's unopened blooms and they have opened and is looking as good as it did when I washed it two weeks ago! (found one aphid on it from other plant and was taking no chances!)
The 49cent ones are getting ready to bloom and can see buds now! Looks like they are going to be that red purple! Ya! I didn't have any that colour!
