My jade plant has been getting more and more unhappy since I moved to a new house. I haven't found the right light situation for it, but I think its problems go beyond just light, so I'll take some of the suggestions I've found on this site. It has lost lots of leaves and looks pretty skimpy, and some of the leaves have a sort of crystalized look. Is this plant recoverable? It's big and old and I'd like to save it if I can.

Your jade is reacting to a change in its environment. If you could exactly duplicate its former environment (same light, temperature, humidity, water, etc.), then it would have very little adjusting to do.
Because that is hard to do, I suggest the following: Prune back all of the stems by about one-third. Move the jade to your sunniest windowsill. Do not repot or fertilize. Allow the top half of the rootball to dry out before watering thoroughly. Within a few weeks you should see lots of healthy new growth emerging from the ends of the cut stems.
