I bought 3 agapanthus plants this spring and I'm wondering how I should overwinter them. I don't want to risk leaving them outside and since they are pots I would like to bring them in, but I'm not sure as to their needs indoors. Anyone successfully overwinter them inside? I'm not sure what cultivar they are...they were only labeled 'African Blue' (I got them on sale for $2.75 each! They had been $10, but the place was going out of business.)
Sometimes when you create a micro climate, you can have better results with the over wintering.

I attribute it to all those factors. #1. South side of house (sunny) #2. Raised bed area #3. Near stones, cement, something to hold heat. #4. MULCH (lot's and lot's) #5. Side or base of house (where the heat off the house helps)
Alot of what kills the plants are the January thaws and loosing the snow cover and the bone chilling wind. And the frost upheaveling of the plant if roots are established!!!!
But that site gives you 3 ways to do it. In the basement, couple others I forget.
And it said to watch the water!!!

Thanks Weezie...one of my problems is that I don't know if I have the evergreen type or not. Oh, well...I guess I'll see what happens! Trial and error..... :-)

Alan, Why don't know if this would be any help, but... Try it the three different ways. One in a pot in your basement, one on a side raised bed right at the base of your house with a southern exposure and one of the other ways discribed!! It always breaks my heart to see a plant pass, but if you don't experiment you may never know.
You are a zone 7 too aren't you?? You have alot more going for you zone wise. Micro climates are very valuable. Though it must be kept in mind that not ALL winters are created equal some are harsher than others. But as long as you have a good insulator on top, I'd give it a try.
Don't yell at me if they die though, I don't want that on my shoulders (BIG GRIN) But ya just never know, I kept reading on those several articles, but I don't remember actually reading what zone they are other than an African bulb..... Would that be about a 9 or 10?????????
