Info on Palms

Fan type:
1. Mediterranean Fan Palm (Chamaerops humilis)can be grown in South or Far West and is the hardiest palm that can survive temp. as low as 60 degrees F.

2. Chinese Fountain Palm (Livistonia chinensis)tolerates 22degrees F temp. Leaves are bright, glossy green that reach 3' or more across. Best to transplant in the summer while actively growing.

We have the Bamboo Palm (Chamaedorea seifrizii) growing in a 17" clay pot and is now almost 8' tall/about 9 years old. The palms were repotted 3 times into the next larger pots.

Not sure about the roots, but I have seen palms withstood 100mph wind...so my guess is they are firmly(deeply?)rooted to survive.

Other types of palms:
Parlor Palm (Chamaedorea elegans)
Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera)
Dwarf Coconut Palm/Weddel Palm (Microcoelum weddelianum)
Ivory Palm (Phytelephas macrocarpa)
Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix canariensis)
Areca Palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens)
Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta)
Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera)
Pygmy Date Palm (Phoenix roebelinii)

best I've come up with so far is a type of palmetto palm.was pictured in a list of 300 palms in a hawaii resort.it listed as palmetto, but search brings up mainly stuff from ecyclopedia and seems is a class of palm.but did see some nice palms i gotta have now.but know I now want 2 mexican palm trees to put at entrance to driveway.
these seem to grow low so hopeing is not a large root.was disapointed in desertusa.they usually help me ID pretty well
