boiling them is just another way to cook them.it also makes them a little softer.guess some of the old folks couldnt aford dentchers back in the old days.so it makes it easy to chew them i guess.here in the south we eat a lot of them not all cajun style.just plain old boiled peanuts.just add the salt and boil.your friend in gardeing. [wayey] mike57

heres a site for cajun boiled peanuts there a lot hotter than mine are.

That does sound spicey!!!
I love peanuts and jalapeno's....

Just not crab.. and never had a boiled peanut...

The Crab boil keeps making me think it tastes fishy...

If I ever see the stuff around here, I may try it,
just out of total curiousity......

Thanks Mike for going the extra mile explaining that to me [thumb]

in the south, boiled peanuts are a major staple diet item. like mike said, old folks without teeth can eat them and get a good amount of protein. and since peanuts aren't nuts at all, but legumes (beans/peas) the grow well in the hot, humid summers down here.

as for the "crab boil" tasting fishy, it is usually a mix of paprika, mustard seeds, bay leaves, and other assorted spices... nothing fishy about it and is used to accomplish two things. one, act as a preservative for the crabs/shrimp and two, eliminate the fishy taste of the seafood being used.

i prefer zatarain's, but lots of folks on the east coast (vs. the gulf coast) like the old bay brand. i just think that zatarains has more real spices and less paprika in theirs.
