Floss Flower(Ageratum) is an annual which is native to Mexico. It can withstand full sun, or it can be placed in partial shade in very hot climates.

Ageratum is known for its furry mounds of long lasting floss-like blue flowers, but you can occasionally find them in white and pink. Plant size can vary between 6-24 inches high and up to 12 inches wide depending on the species.

The blue Floss Flower "Adriatic" is the species more widely found, and grows to the height of 8 inches with an 8 inch clumping spread. When planting in the spring after the first frost be sure to space them 6-12 inches apart. Usually the plants will not be disturbed by pests, especially if grown within the proper environment.

Floss Flowers like a fair amount of water, between medium and high, and they'll grow at a medium speed. Be sure to deadhead them regularly, this will encourage new grow--also pinching back new growth on young plants will encourage them to branch out. They are great plants for containers or for your flowerbeds. In the flowerbed they will look their best when they are grouped in a large mass in the front of the border.

For best results sow seeds inside 6-8 weeks before your last frost. The small seeds need light to germinate so DO NOT cover them. Placed in a 70-75 degree medium you should notice germination within 5-10 days.
