[teacher] Red Valerian(Centranthus ruber) is also commonly called Jupiter's Beard.
This 2-3 ft. tall perennial produces masses of fragrant red, pink or white flower clusters from June through August.
Centranthus ruber prefers:

* Well draining, slightly alkaline soil

Centranthus ruber:
* Is hardy to USDA zones 5-8
* Is very drought tolerant
* Is propagated by seeds (it also reseeds itself) or by division in the Spring or Fall.
* Attracts butterflies
